This\nproject is scheduled to go online during the first quarter of 2020 in the open\nsea waters of Santander (Spain) for a 12 months period after which the\nprototype will be completely decommissioned.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Testing will\ntake place in real sea environment with the deployment of a <strong>1:6 scaled\nprototype <\/strong>of a 10 MW wind turbine using <strong>SATH floating technology<\/strong>, acronym\nof Swinging Around Twin Hull, an innovative, competitive and cost efficient\nsolution for offshore wind industry, which has been validated in several water\ntank tests since 2014.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main objectives\nof BlueSATH project cover SATH platform <strong>validation<\/strong> of its response and <strong>dynamic\nbehavior<\/strong>. The aim is to obtain models that allow for structural optimization,\nenabling cost reduction and validating structural turbine integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally,\nthe variables which better predict damage on different structure elements would\nbe identified so the structural life cycle can be appropriately forecasted through\na series of sensors. Furthermore, demonstrator\u2019s logistic and transport\nchallenges and risks would be monitored in the course of its transport from\nmanufacturing\/assembly setting to its final operation location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding wind\nturbine operation and maintenance, the necessary operations would be established,\nin order to ensure its optimal performance owing to platform accessibility\nsystem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The obtained results\nand findings will be applied in the following real-scale model (2MW), to be\ninstalled on the Basque Marine Energy Platform (BIMEP) in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Abra of\nSardinero, in the city of Santander (Spain) is the selected deployment location\ndue to its meteoceanic conditions (wind, waves, currents and depth) which make it\nsuitable to create a real scaled environment. This project has significant\nlocal content, with many companies from Cantabria Region taking part such as: Santander\nPort, IHCantabria, DEGIMA, ASTANDER y ACORDE. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To sum up,\nBlueSATH will promote the development of renewable energy, contributing to achieve the global\nsustainability objectives through the use of wind at greater depths to generate\nenergy. In this way, offshore wind is positioned as one of the most dynamic and\nwith higher potential sources at the present.
