{"id":406,"date":"2019-12-16T13:49:29","date_gmt":"2019-12-16T11:49:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saitec-offshore.com\/?p=406"},"modified":"2020-02-17T11:19:35","modified_gmt":"2020-02-17T10:19:35","slug":"saitec-offshore-is-taking-part-in-the-eu-funded-arcwind-project-to-boost-floating-wind-energy-in-atlantic-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saitec-offshore.com\/en\/saitec-offshore-is-taking-part-in-the-eu-funded-arcwind-project-to-boost-floating-wind-energy-in-atlantic-region\/","title":{"rendered":"ArcWind project: Saitec Offshore seeks to boost floating wind energy in Atlantic Region."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n\n\n<p>Saitec\nOffshore Technologies is involved in an international project called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcwind.eu\/\">ArcWind<\/a> (Adaptation and Implementation of Floating Wind Energy Conversion\nTechnology for the Atlantic Region), supported with EU funds from Interreg Atlantic Area\nprogram, aiming <strong>to drive the floating wind energy forward<\/strong> to\nbecome a major contributor of green energy in the Atlantic Area Countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ArcWind\u2019s\nscope is to contribute to the <strong>transition from fixed to floating wind\nplatform systems<\/strong> for use in deeper water and more exposed sites in the\nregion, to derive a methodology for selecting locations for siting floating\noffshore wind farms as well as application cases in the Atlantic Area\ncountries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For\nthis purpose, the following actions\nare being carried out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Assessment of wind energy potential\nin the Atlantic Region by complementing existing wind data with detailed\ninformation resulting from a regional atmospheric model and remote sensed data.\nA multicriteria approach for selecting the locations of the wind energy farms are\ndeveloped and applied to the Atlantic region countries.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The feasibility and appropriateness\nof having different types of floating wind turbines installed in the various\nlocations considering the specific features of the sites and the main types of\nfloating structures: barge, TLP and advanced spar type. High power turbine\nconcepts and innovative control algorithms will be considered case studies will\nthen be chosen for each country in which a specific concept of platform will be\nstudied numerically and experimentally.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Farms with these platforms will be\nconsidered for cost assessment, logistics and maintenance planning as well as\nrisk assessment. Overall realistic assessments of the production, costs and\neconomic feasibility will be produced.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A\n10 MW wind turbine with SATH Technology from Saitec has been recently tested at\nMaREI Center (University College of Cork) and its performance it\u2019s going to be\nanalyzed. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0lex Morato, Saitec Offshore Technologies\u2019 project\nmanager for ArcWind, affirms: \u201cThis project is a great opportunity to test our\ntechnology for a 10MW turbine and prove the scalability and performance of the\nSATH platform. Besides, the project demonstrates the technical and\neconomic feasibility of several locations in the Atlantic coast to install\nfloating wind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research is\nled by Instituto Superior T\u00e9cnico Portugal and brings together leading companies\nfrom different countries:&nbsp;
