Offshore wind in Chile

Chile is emerging in the development of offshore wind energy. According to a report by the World Bank and the MERIC Center, the country boasts an estimated potential of 957 GW, 86% suited for floating technology. This innovation enables the use of wind energy in deep coastal areas where conventional technologies are not viable. With over 4,000 kilometers of coastline and wind conditions offering capacity factors above 40%, offshore wind energy could become key for Chile’s energy transition and decarbonization goals.

Challenges such as reducing operational costs, building local manufacturing and maintenance capacities, and developing a robust regulatory framework lie ahead. However, Chile has the opportunity to harness this resource through innovative technologies and position itself as a regional leader in Latin America.

In this context, we participate in the Offshore Wind Seminar, where our CCO, Immanuel Capano, will share key insights and the initial results of the DemoSATH project—the first floating wind turbine installed in Spain. The event will also feature leading companies in the sector, including DNV, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult or Voar.
