The European Commission has set out a European Green Deal, in order to implement the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda and the sustainable development goals, due to its commitment to tackling climate and environmental-related urgent challenges. The main goal is to deliver a new, inclusive and people-first growth strategy “to transform the EU into a fair and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy where there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from resource use”.

Investment and effort

Since this transition will bring substantial change, it will require “massive public investment and increased efforts to direct private capital towards climate and environmental action, while avoiding lock-in into unsustainable practices”.

A solution beyond Europe

Europe is leading a coordinated answer to face climate change, but it is needed to join forces with others to bring together the right policies and measures to protect the environment and to accomplish climate-related objectives.

Power sector based on renewable sources

Energy efficiency has a paramount role in this transition and the European Commission consider that increasing offshore wind production “will be essential”. It is also remarkable that the institution highlighted the importance of smart integration of renewables across sectors “to achieve decarbonization at the lowest possible cost”.

For this to happen, we think that offshore wind will have an active role due to its potential and continuous abatement of costs, so we expect that this source will be growing at a faster pace across Europe in the following years.
