FOWTEC event

The Floating Offshore Wind Technical Symposium (FOWTEC) 2024 is a technical event created in partnership with the company Tecnalia. It will take place on 22 April 2024 at the Getxo Cruise Terminal, Biscay.

FOWTEC aims to be a more purely scientific event, and its main objective is to foster discussion on the latest developments, share knowledge and explore future opportunities in the floating offshore wind energy sector. With a packed agenda of informative sessions and thought-provoking presentations, this event promises to be an endless source of learning and innovation.

Event Highlights

One of the highlights of the event will be a keynote from Jason Jonkman of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). His presentation will offer a unique insight into the current and future landscape of floating offshore wind, providing invaluable guidance for all attendees.

The event will also feature two main sessions, each focusing on crucial aspects of the field:

  • Session 1: It will feature presentations by Tecnalia, France Energies Marines and UPV where they will focus on the latest innovations in Coupled Analysis (FCA) and their integration in control strategies for floating offshore wind energy projects.
  • Session 2: Representatives from IH Cantabria, CEHIPAR, Tecnalia and Fraunhofer IWES will discuss state-of-the-art methodologies for wave tank testing, essential for validating concepts and designs of floating offshore wind technologies.

In addition, the event will include a detailed Case Study on the DemoSATH project, presented by Saitec Offshore, which documents the journey from numerical modelling to an operational offshore prototype. On the other hand, The Energy Cluster Association’s Industry talk will highlight the capabilities of the Basque Supply Chain and key projects in the Floating Offshore Wind Energy sector.

BIMEP offshore visit

The symposium will culminate with an offshore visit to BIMEP (Bizkaio Marine Energy Platform), offering a hands-on experience of floating offshore wind technology. Featured projects such as DemoSATH, the first grid-connected floating offshore wind turbine in Spain and HarshLab, a unique floating laboratory for offshore industry testing, will be at the centre of this visit, providing a unique insight into innovation in action.

With a focus on collaboration, innovation and the exchange of ideas, attendees at the event will have the opportunity to neetworking during lunch and the enriching experience of various presentations given by experts in the sector at this first edition of FOWTEC symposium.
