Saitec Offshore Technologies will participate in the upcoming cross-border event “Perspectives for Development and Cooperation for Marine Renewable Energies (MRE) in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Euskadi,” held at Technocité, Bayonne, on March 12 and 13, 2026.
As France scales up its floating offshore wind ambitions, Nouvelle-Aquitaine is positioning itself as a strategic industrial and logistics hub along the Atlantic. With 720 km of coastline and four major commercial ports, the region aims to support at least 7 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050, in line with France’s national objective of reaching 45 GW of offshore wind and around 20% of electricity generation from this source by mid-century. Through the Aquitania Wind Energy alliance, the ports of Bayonne, Bordeaux, La Rochelle and Rochefort are upgrading their infrastructure to handle large-scale floating wind projects, backed by an investment plan of more than €200 million and expected to generate over €2.2 billion in added value and hundreds of long-term jobs in the region.
In this context, Euskadi stands out as a natural, high-value partner for Nouvelle-Aquitaine’s emerging floating wind cluster. Beyond pioneering projects such as DemoSATH, Spain’s first grid-connected floating wind demonstrator, the Basque Country has built a competitive industrial ecosystem with strong capabilities in offshore engineering, advanced manufacturing, shipbuilding and electrical systems. This cross-border industrial base is exceptionally well placed to accelerate the deployment of floating wind in the Bay of Biscay, from design and fabrication of key components to assembly, grid connection and long-term operations and maintenance.
Over two days, public authorities, industry leaders, port operators and project developers from both sides of the border will come together to turn this complementarity into concrete cooperation. The goal is to lay the foundations for a resilient European value chain in floating offshore wind, capable of capturing the economic, industrial and employment opportunities associated with multi-gigawatt development in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and across the wider Atlantic Arc.
Key topics of the cross-border event
- Analysis of regional dynamics: Evaluating the growth of marine renewable energy in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Euskadi regions.
- Promotion of expertise: Highlighting industrial projects and specialized technical knowledge.
- Industrial and port integration: Fostering technological synergies and optimizing the role of port infrastructures.
This summit is co-organized by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Development and Innovation Agency (ADI), Aquitaine Blue Energies, and Blue Sign, in partnership with the Basque Energy Cluster (BasqueEnergy).
Featured Session: MRE Industry in Euskadi
David Carrascosa, COO of Saitec Offshore Technologies will participate in the technical panel: “Status of marine renewable energy projects and industries in Euskadi”. This session will analyze the current industrial landscape in the Basque Country, highlighting existing projects, which includes DemoSATH, Spain’s first grid-connected floating wind project, and the technological capabilities of the regional supply chain.
- Date: March 12, 2026
- Time: 14:55 – 15:45
- Partners: Held in collaboration with the BasqueEnergy Cluster and featuring participation alongside SME Ditrel.
Program overview
The agenda combines strategic discussion with operational networking:
- March 12: Technical roundtables and case studies, followed by pre-scheduled B2B meetings to establish industrial partnerships.
- March 13: Technical site visits to the Laminoir des Landes and the Port of Bayonne, providing a direct look at the region’s industrial and logistical capabilities.
