To mark the two years in operation of DemoSATH as the first grid-connected floating wind turbine in Spain, we gathered with our partners and collaborators in Aberdeen, coinciding with the Floating Wind conference, where we had the opportunity to reflect on the journey so far and recognise the crucial role each of them has played in DemoSATH's success.
We were delighted to be joined by some of our closest collaborators. First, WFO, with whom we co-organised the event and who helped us keep the spotlight on the wider industry. We also acknowledged KEPCO for its continued trust in the project, and BiMEP for hosting DemoSATH off the Basque coast.
Throughout the evening, attendees were invited to leave a short message and have their photo taken, creating a living DemoSATH history album that captures the people behind the project.
David Carrascosa, COO of Saitec Offshore Technologies, introduced the team with a playful nod to its capacity to take on complex challenges. DemoSATH Project Director Jesús López-Tafall then shared a reflection on the journey so far, and Immanuel Capano, CCO of Saitec Offshore Technologies, closed by recognising the work of the full team, the support of the organisations that have trusted the project and the contribution of the partners who have made it possible.
A pioneering project showcasing the promising future of offshore wind
DemoSATH is much more than a floating wind prototype off the Basque coast: it is a proof point that concrete-based floating technology can safely and reliably operate in real offshore conditions.
Over these first two years, the project has faced and overcome many of the key challenges of floating wind: complex marine operations, demanding metocean conditions, day-to-day operation and maintenance, and the coordination of a diverse supply chain, prioritising local capabilities while integrating international partners.
In doing so, it has helped move floating wind from concept to reality and has provided the industry with real data, real lessons learned and real confidence. For Saitec Offshore Technologies, DemoSATH confirms its role as a pioneer in designing, building, installing and operating one of the first full-scale floating wind demonstrators of its kind.
DemoSATH continues its journey, and we expect it to keep providing a broad field for study and research, helping us gain robust data to support both the development of this industry and activities focused on coexistence through the DemoSATH Lab initiative.
