Every June 15, we celebrate one of the most powerful and transformative forces of nature: the wind. A clean, renewable, and unlimited resource, wind energy plays a critical role in the fight against climate change—and floating offshore wind power is at the forefront of that movement.

At Saitec Offshore Technologies, we proudly join the global celebration of World Wind Day by highlighting the immense potential of floating offshore wind. With Spain’s narrow continental shelf and rapidly deepening coastal waters, floating wind platforms offer the most viable solution to harness marine wind resources effectively.

Why offshore wind matters for Spain

Spain boasts exceptional offshore wind potential, especially along the northern coasts (Cantabrian and Atlantic) and in the Canary Islands. With average wind speeds exceeding 8–10 m/s in many areas, these regions provide optimal conditions for generating consistent and efficient electricity.

By tapping into this resource, Spain can diversify its energy mix, reduce emissions, and stimulate job creation in a growing green economy.

SATH: An innovation in floating offshore wind

Driven by the power of the wind, Saitec Offshore Technologies has developed SATH (Swinging Around Twin Hull)—an innovative floating wind platform that enhances efficiency while minimizing costs. With over a decade of research and development, SATH is engineered to thrive in even the most demanding marine environments.

Watch the DemoSATH documentary on DMAX

In celebration of World Wind Day, we are pleased to announce a new airing of our DemoSATH documentary on DMAX. This special program showcases the journey of Spain’s first grid-connected floating offshore wind turbine and the people behind it.

DemoSATH has delivered clean energy to over 2,500 homes annually while withstanding harsh storms in the Cantabrian Sea for more than 18 months—demonstrating its resilience and performance.

Don’t miss “Megastructures in the Sea. DemoSATH project” on DMAX, June 14 at 1.00 pm (CET). Discover how we’re transforming wind into clean, accessible, and sustainable power from the sea.

Can’t catch it on TV or watching from abroad? No worries — it’s also available on our YouTube channel.
